🥊 Sparring is as real as it gets. It is that simple.
🥊 Sparring requires you to use every one of your attributes – forcing you to sharpen your skills and practice things like the controlling distance, timing, speed, agility and focus as well as cardiovascular and muscle endurance to name just a few.
🥊 Adds a fitness element.
Staying in constant motion, can improve fitness in several ways, it will increase stamina and cardiovascular fitness. It will also help improve balance, by having to make quick, sharp movements then re-centre. Sparring can help develop muscle tone and strength through repeated punching, kicking, and throwing your opponent engages many muscle groups at once.
🥊 Builds comprehension.
When explaining why a certain technique is a certain way or movements must be done in as specific motions, it may confuse when you first explain it. Students want to understand the why’s. They want a reason. When they see that a move works in sparring, or why something does not work when they don’t perform it the way you explained, the puzzle pieces fall into place.
🥊 Help with Impact Control
Getting hit can be jarring but sparring helps students learn how to bounce back. With the supervision of a coach, sparring can quickly help your students deal with being hit and learn how to literally roll with the punches. This physical toughness translates to psychological toughness as well, especially since sparring exists in a safe and controlled space. Any confrontations outside of sparring will seem less harrowing and practicing assists with recovery from disappointment or failure.
Sparring will help you develop a greater understanding and application of the following skills:
✅ Distance – How to control the distance between you and your partner.
✅ Rhythm – How to break your opponent’s rhythm.
✅ Timing – How to judge the timing of your opponent and know when to hit
✅ Combinations – How to land combinations while your partner moves forwards, backwards, sideways and tries to counter
✅ Footwork – How to move in, out and to the sides to strike or evade a punch.
✅ Speed – You will learn how to use your speed to hit your opponent before they can block, as well as move quickly out the way of a strike.
✅ Balance – You will learn to control your balance and centre of gravity while in a fighting motion.
✅ Reaction – You will improve your reaction times.
✅ Focus – You will be forced to keep focus and concentrate on the fight without distractions. The second you switch off you will know about it!
✅ Cardiovascular – Your fitness levels will have to adapt and will improve.
✅ Muscular endurance – Your endurance and stamina will have to adapt and will improve.
✅ Conditioning – You will learn to get hit and fake that it doesn’t hurt so you can carry on.

Try: Boxing
Why? If you want improved reflexes and to burn up to 500 calories an hour, it's also for you. But here's the thing: along with a stronger body, you'll also get a stronger mind, including the confidence that comes with being able to handle yourself in any situation. In a non-contact class you can expect to shadow box (punch the air), hit pads, and do resistance moves to tone the muscles you need to punch with power.

Midweek goals. The flexibility of our 24/7 gym, which includes access to heavy bags, mats areas, indoor ring, strength and conditioning, weights and cardio equipment allows you to train in your own time 24/7.
Today we are focusing on dynamic movements.
Great for sports that need both explosive strength and endurance; Explosive for when you're trying to throw someone and endurance for keeping someone pinned to the floor or in your brace.
When choosing a weight, chose something you can do for 10 reps, but becomes challenging around the 7th or 8th reps. If you're still fully smiling at the 10th rep it's too light!
I suggest doing two exercises back-to-back.
Chose any two in any order from the list below:
Do one, immediately followed by another one, rest for 30 seconds to a minute and repeat 3 times.
Do 3 times a week.
Plank and some variations. First, you should be able to hold the basic plank for 1 minute. If you can't, that's your first goal then move onto some harder variations.

Try: Muay Thai
Why? Also referred to as the 'art of eight limbs', Muay
Thai is a form of kickboxing native to Thailand. As well
as punching and kicking, you'll use your elbows and
knees on the bags and pads for a lung-busting all-over
body workout. Expect improved stamina, strength,
endurance, speed, flexibility, core strength - and
self-confidence

What are Pads?
Pads are a round robin, one on one session with a professional pads trainer.
Pad work can be as intense, or as entry level as you like whilst you learn new techniques.
A trainer will mimic a fight sequence within your 3x 3-min rounds.
This not only helps to build cardiovascular endurance, but this process helps build and teach defensive and offensive strategies.
A fighter can sharpen his reflexes with pad training.
A gradual process that improves over time.
A fighter can react faster through repeated practice and training.
How do ask for a pads session?
Approach a Pads trainer , in the ring - Pads trainer will be wearing a Corporate Box Shirt.
Let them know you will warm up and to grab you when its your turn.
Warm up: Use the cardio machines, skip, shadow box or use the heavy bags to warm yourself up until a pads trainer calls you over.
Complete your pads session 3x 3min rounds with 1x 1min rest in between.
Warm down: Continue what you have learnt in the pads session on the heavy bags, focusing on techniques you may need further practice is.
Stretch and finish up.
